Daniele Baldeli, is the genre leaping, technically radical DJ, and creator of the “cosmic sound”. Known for blending songs, in his own words, that “don’t seem to fit” while often playing them at the wrong speed, legend has it he learned to put records together with no mixer, headphones, or monitor. It was at the Baia Degli Angeli perched on hill near Cattolica, where he gained his notoriety, playing to over 2000 people inside a DJ booth located in a glass elevator til sunrise: a closing time unheard of in that time period. The debaucherous fun wouldn’t last however and he moved to a new club called “Cosmic” in Lake Garda playing inside a DJ booth designed to look like a space helmet and later a cockpit of a spaceship. Like the other pioneering soul/disco gods Francis Grasso, David Mancuso, and Nicky Siano, the Italian native Baldelli had a knack for mixing the most esoteric records: heavy disco, fusion, spacey Kosmiche, and sleazy new wave.
