Considered a critical, commercial success and one of the most revolutionary albums in jazz history, Miles Davis’s “Bitches Brew album (named by funk and soul singer Betty Davis who was married to the jazz musician at the time) marked a dramatic musical change for the artist, incorporating electrical instruments, synthesizers, and R&B rhythms. Miles wanted to reach out to a younger black and white rock audience, the generation he said that was happening now”. He assembled a team of 13 session musicians who had never rehearsed the material, including Wayne Shorter, Bennie Maupin, Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland, Lenny White, and Jack DeJohnette, many of whom went on to illustrious careers in jazz fusion. The cover, illustrated by Mati Klarwein (one of our main inspirations) was inspired by surrealism, pop culture, and psychedelic landscapes.
